i-icon World Bank Income Classification:Low Income The World Bank classifies economies for analytical purposes into four income groups: low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high income. For this purpose it uses gross national income (GNI) per capita data in U.S. dollars, converted from local currency using the World Bank Atlas method, which is applied to smooth exchange rate fluctuations. i-icon Least Developed Country:Yes Since 1971, the United Nations has recognized LDCs as a category of States that are deemed highly disadvantaged in their development process, for structural, historical and also geographical reasons. Three criteria are used: per capita income, human assets, and economic vulnerability. i-icon Gender Inequality Index:0.575 GII is a composite metric of gender inequality using three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment and the labour market. A low GII value indicates low inequality between women and men, and vice-versa. i-icon Gender Development Index:0.723 GDI measures gender inequalities in achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: health, education, and command over economic resources.

Strategic Note Outcome Progress NoteShowing data of :2021

Strengthen the production of gender statistics to enable the monitoring of national policies and reporting commitments under the SDGs.

The technical capacities of the OCGS and NBS are now more strengthened. New quality data on unpaid care work, social norms, crimes and institutions are being produced. The capacity of the statistical system has been enhanced, as a result the production of gender statistics and reprocessing of existing gender data in censuses, surveys and routine data systems is currently underway. These results will fill the gender data gaps, as well as improve the monitoring of SDGs. A significant milestone was achieved on producing data for gender-related SDGs. UN Women supported NBS and OCGS in strengthening production of gender sensitive data, by publishing the Zanzibar SDG Gender Indicators Report (https://data.unwomen.org/sites/default/files/documents/Publications/Zanzibar_Minimum_Set_of_GEWE_Indicators.pdf). Building on existing and new data sets, additional data disaggregation led to the production of 35 gender-related SDG Tier I and II indicators now being included in the report. One of the significant progresses in 2021 was the drafting of SIGI Tanzania country report and finalization of the SIGI survey report. After extensive consultations, three reports (SIGI qualitative report, SIGI survey report and SIGI Tanzania Country Report) were presented in the final technical advisory committee meeting (TAG) was held at the end of 2021 where 37 participants (13 male and 24 female) from sectoral ministries, NBS, OCGS and academia. The final SIGI report will be launched in early 2022. In strengthening capacity of the national stakeholders in 2021, UN Women provided technical and financial support for a five -day training on qualitative method of data collection that was held in Zanzibar. The capacity building sessions strengthened NBS and OCGS in the adoption of a qualitative aspect in future surveys. In addition, participants from NBS, OCGS, Ministry of Gender from Mainland and Zanzibar and department of Police who are data producers and users enhanced their knowledge for their own programming and planning. In Tanzania, UN Women supported the office of the Chief Government Statistician in production of monthly GBV crime statistics as a result of collection and reprocessing of secondary data from the police headquarters on crime and GBV statistics.
