National and local plans and budgets are gender responsive
Gender and equity planning, and budgeting is a key strategy for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. With support from UN Women, the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) developed 18 action handbooks that will inform the enhancement of gender and equity programming in priority programmes of the third National Development Plan (NDP III). The handbooks provide guidance on how to identify priority gender and equity issues under each programme of the NDP III and how to establish performance indicators. In addition, the Equal Opportunities Commission developed the Gender and Equity Guidelines for Local Governments as part of the efforts towards addressing the gender and equity capacity gaps to enhance compliance at Local Government Level. During the year, 10 local Governments integrated gender and equity perspectives in their annual budgets and plans, the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group published 8 advocacy briefs, calling out government agencies to pay particular attention to gender and equity priorities in the FY 2021/22 budget.Disclaimer and notes
