The World Bank classifies economies for analytical purposes into four income groups: low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high income. For this purpose it uses gross national income (GNI) per capita data in U.S. dollars, converted from local currency using the World Bank Atlas method, which is applied to smooth exchange rate fluctuations.

The legislative and institutional environment to formulate and implement laws and policies that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in line with the 2014 Egyptian Constitution and relevant international norms and standards is enhanced.
Capacity development support to national counterparts, particularly the NCW and women’s rights organizations/CSOs to promote gender equality issues in line with Egypt’s national priorities and international commitments. It will support the NCW to assess progress and fulfill Egypt’s obligations related to implementation of CEDAW [Egypt will submit its combined 8th and 9th report to the CEDAW Committee in 2020] and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action through supporting the participation of representatives of national and local government, women’s rights/CSOs in the CSW64 in New York, the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Global Leaders’ Forum in Rabat and Generation Equality Forum. Furthermore ECO will undertake a comprehensive review of the law through supporting case-law analysis and advocacy activities in collaboration with governmental and civil society organizations to push for law reform as well as continute to provide national ID cards for marginalized women.

UN Women supported the National Council for Women by providing technical expertise in the field of Personal Status Law (PSL) through sharing regional and international relevant resources and best practices that would support evidence based messaging with respect to the new PSL agenda in Egypt. An agreement between NCW and UNWOMEN has been signed to advance a gender sensitive legislative agenda that fulfills the rights of women. As a result knowledge products were generated focusing on the impact of PSL issues on both women’s and children’s life. The reports highlighted the gaps in PSL, and proposed recommendations based on the data collected through audio-visual and written media. Also, comparative literature was produced focusing on PSL in different countries along with a compilation international and regional agreements concerning women and children in relation to personal status cases which are believed to inform the preparations of updated proposals to the new law.Disclaimer and notes
