Outcome progress note for the year

Enhanced coordination, coherence and accountability of the UN system for commitments to gender equality and women’s empowerment

The UNCT Ecuador team strengthens its knowledge and capacities for Gender SWAP accountability by conducting the UN SWAP 2021 annual self-assessment process through an inter-agency team (with participants of UNFPA, OCR, WPF and UNODC, under the coordination of UN Women). An UNCT-SWAP annual progress report 2021 (1) presented to the UNCT team and entered on the UN Women online platform, according with the deadline process. An updated 2022 Action Plan by the Gender Interagency Group, based on the 2021 self-assessment results. UN Women participated in the construction of the Common Country Assessment (CCA/UNSDCF) for the period 2022-2026, the main role of UN Women was to guarantee the incorporation of the gender approach in the document. This process included training sessions and consultation processes with representatives of the State functions and with focus groups with UNS partners, rights holders, and interviews with key actors. The final products of the CCA of Ecuador will be ready by 2022. UN Women will participate in the evaluation of the cooperation framework of 2021 as responsible for the gender approach. Additionally, in 2021, UN Women co-led the Peace Group with UNDOC, which included activities to promote equality in women's political participation, political violence and joint analysis of the general State budget with a gender perspective. Within the Social Protection Group, UN Women maintains co-leadership and political dialogues with national government entities in the social sector, through which joint lines of action were established and the draft of the National Social Protection Strategy was developed.
