Improved management of financial and human resources in pursuit of results

In 2021 the Fiji MCO managed its resources well in the Solomon Islands despite a series of emergencies have required adaptation and pivoting during the year. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted programme implementation and prevented the timely achievement of a number of planned results across teams. At the same time, COVID-19 proved to be a core issue that led to the strengthening and pivoting of certain activities in order to best serve all gender groups in the region, in particular women and girls. COVID-19 continued to strain economic realities for countries and communities. In Solomon Islands, concerns of community transmission due to border cases led to various waves of precautionary actions with curfews, limited movement and restrictions on gathering. There was also the series of ongoing demonstrations and civil unrest in Solomon Islands that had implications on project implementation towards the end of the year. Funds utilisation was at 87 % for DRF and 73% for OEEF.

The Solomon Islands NRA has in year enhanced coordination and accountability of the UN system for commitments to gender equality and women’s empowerment (in its role as part of the Solomon Islands UNJPO); increased engagement of partners in support of UN Women’s mandate (particularly partners of the new Women’s Resilience to Disasters programme); improved the quality of programmes through knowledge exchanges for staff and results-based management and improved management of finances and human resources. Programme implementation rate at the end of 2022 stood at 91%.
