Outcome insights and achievements
Outcome progress note for the year
An enabling legislative and policy environment in line with international standards on EVAW and other forms of discrimination is in place and translated into action
Result: There increased efforts to prioritise the engagement of critical stakeholders in VAW prevention and response. The government has included the Law of Marriage Act 1971 as the law to be reviewed to reduce teenage pregnancy. Teenage pregnancy is the root cause of girls leaving school and getting married, exacerbating sexual violence and coercion. Evidence: The government conducted quarterly consultative sessions to discuss the opportunities for reviewing the laws with stakeholders to justify strengthening gender-sensitive laws, policies and plans. UN Women's contribution: UN Women provided technical inputs into the consultative meetings and shared best practices of the current laws from other countries.
An enabling legislative and policy environment in line with international standards on EVAW and other forms of discrimination is in place and translated into action
Results: The systems and structures articulated in the NPA VAWC were adopted at national and LGAs levels. These include the conduction of thematic working groups, national steering committees and women and children protection committees’ meetings for the implementation of NPA VAWC. These working groups and committees conducted all meetings according to the guidelines in line with international standards on EVAW and other forms of discrimination Evidence: The thematic and national technical meetings were conducted in January, March, September, October, and December 2021 in Dodoma involving thematic areas on Safe Space, Household Economic strengthening, Norms and Response, Law Enforcement and Coordination. UN Women staff attended the meetings and provided technical inputs to the agreed actions. Contributions: UN Women provided financial support to cover meetings especially thematic areas on Safe Space, Household Economic strengthening, Norms and Response, Law Enforcement Safe Space, Household Economic strengthening, Norms and Values; Response and Law Enforcement. UN Women staff engaged in drafting the meeting schedule, facilitation, provided global references on key areas for learning such as sharing Handbook Gender-responsive policing, GBV tools such as RESPECT model, SASA Tools and other global guidance (Generation Action Coalition on GBV)
