In the period under review,
UN Women has ensured active participation in the UN Gender Theme Group, UN
Monitoring and Evaluation Group and the UN Communications Group in South Africa
and provided technical support and guidance on GEWE issues and achieved
significant progress in supporting the implementation of the UNCT activities
such as the gender equality scorecard assessment, development of the gender
mainstreaming strategy, CCA, UNSCDF, and Joint Work Plans. As part of the UN
joint teams both in South Africa, Botswana and Lesotho, ensuring GEWE is
mainstreamed both internally within UN Teams HIV/AIDS strategies and externally
in national HIV/AIDS responses. In Botswana, UNWOMEN is supporting the Gender
equality work of the office of the First Lady as well as collaborating with
other UN agencies in addressing rising harmful and gender biased practices such
as GBV which enhance women and girl’s vulnerability to HIV. SP_D_6.2B
