Outcome insights and achievements

Central African women and girls aected by the conflict in CAR play a role as actresses in community reconciliation and are supported for their recovery.
In the reporting Year, 2.9 million of people was in need the office of humanitarian coordination. This number is an increase due to the COVID-19 Pandemic effects couple of the security situation. 3.9 million of people (1.6 million of women) will need assistance in 2022. UN Women in CAR supported the government to protect people in need trough its portfolio Women peace and security and humanitarian action (WPS-HA). Programmatic actions to support the peace process and social cohesion and to increase income of vulnerable people. In the reporting year, two major projects have supported the WPS-HA portfolio: the joint project “ sensibilisation et communication pour la cohesion social” and “Appui la réponse à COVID-19_Ezingo” funded respectively by Peace Building Fund (PBF) and the multiple partners trust fund to COVID-19 recovery in Central Africa Republic. The main results following was targeted (cf project reports) : Construction and hand-over of 15 potable water boreholes to enable access to potable water for over 50.000 people (majority of women) Support in the prevention of COVID-19 and domestic violence during the pandemic Support to women potters in manufacturing 450 ecological kits, Support of creation and sustaining of income-generating activities to build resilience of 86 women’s groups on current & future shocks Strengthening capacity of local peace and reconciliation committees on inclusion of women and youth in peace mechanisms (R1325& 2250). A Strategic partnership was strengthened with the Ministries of Gender, Communication and Humanitarian Action, MINUSCA, RCO and UNFPA, Regional Organizations and guarantors of the Peace Agreement (AU and ECCAS), local and regional women’s organizations (AWLN, FemWise), faith-based and community-based organizations (FBO and CBOs), national and community media, telecommunications companies and women and youth organizations, including through leveraging existing networks of trained volunteers
Women and girls affected by the conflict are supported for their recovery and play a role as actresses in peacebuilding
In 2022, the Office has recorded significant impact in promoting gender-sensitive peacebuilding process, humanitarian assistance and the successful engagement of women organisations in those two sectors. Through catalytic interventions, UN Women continued to defend the work of women rights defenders at local and national levels in critical areas for the country's peacebuilding, namely peace accords and related processes, addressing conflict-related mental traumas, ensuring women's voice and agency in promoting social cohesion and recovery. UN Women has ensured effective and visible contribution, both in quantity of women represented and in substance (thematic areas covered) in the National Dialogue, one of the provisions of the 2019 Peace Accord. Despite that the numeric representation of women remained low (around 8%) in the Dialogue itself, UN Women organized pre-dialogue consultations to ensure that women and women rights defenders from across the country were able to meet and strategize on key thematic areas for the few women delegates to cover during the Dialogue itself. This has been echoed at community level where expected impact of the national gatherings organized by UN Women, include an active participation of women at community level to participate in following up on the Dialogue recommendations' implementation. Cognisant of the role of WRD as first respondents to the crisis, UN Women has placed particular emphasis in supporting their mental health, advocacy power, convening ability and mediation.
