								Advancing SDGs: UN Women's impact and key achievements
			
			1. Leadership and Political Participation of Women in Public Life
UN Women has supported actions to enhance women's participation in the electoral process, including organizing Gender Cafés/Dialogue Spaces with ELECAM, Cameroon’s election management body. These events provided a platform for discussing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and decision-making. Through these activities, women leaders, youth, and civil society organizations engaged in meaningful dialogue, ensuring women had the knowledge and opportunities to actively participate in the electoral cycle. These actions contribute to SDG 5.5 (women’s participation in leadership) and SDG 16.7 (inclusive, responsive decision-making).
2. Economic Empowerment of Women
Economic empowerment of women has been at the core of numerous successful initiatives, ensuring that the needs of women and girls are systematically addressed, including in emergency situations. Through targeted interventions, nearly 40,000 women and girls have experienced enhanced economic independence, increasing their resilience to shocks and contributing to their economic autonomy. Most of them received economic kits, providing them with the opportunity to launch their own businesses and become drivers of their own development. These efforts actively support several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 5.a (promoting technology for women), SDG 8.5 (ensuring full and productive employment for all), and SDG 1.4 (ensuring equal access to economic resources and land ownership).
3. Violence Against Women and Girls
The draft GBV law, supported by UN Women, will reduce gender-based violence and provide a strong legal framework to protect women and girls. This aligns with SDG 5.2 (eliminate violence against women) and SDG 16.1 (reduce violence and mortality). UN Women also provided nearly 25,000 kits (hygienic, livelihoods, dignity, and economic) along with medical, financial, and psychosocial support, contributing to SDG 5.2 and SDG 16.2 (end violence and exploitation).
4. Women, Peace, and Security, Humanitarian Action
Gender integration in humanitarian responses was a key focus for UN Women. Its involvement in the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) and Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2025 ensured that gender considerations were embedded in the humanitarian response, addressing the needs of women and girls in crises. Additionally, UN Women’s support in capacity-building and partnerships strengthened the leadership and resilience of women and girls, contributing to SDG 5.3 (eliminate harmful practices like child marriage) and SDG 16.4 (reduce illicit financial flows and strengthen asset recovery).

			UNWomen CMR has conducted a high level advocacy toward the Government for the harmonization of the country legal framework with its international commitments regarding women’s rights. As result, the MINPROFF requested for support for the drafting of the law against GBV. In partnership with UNFPA and the Word Bank, UNWOMEN supported the recruitment of experts in charge of the drafting of the law and participated actively in developping the content of the draft. The document is now available and will be shared with the stakeholders for revisions, inputs and final version to be submitted to the parliament for approval. This result has been a key contribution to the achievement of the impact 3 of the UNWOMEN strategic plan 2022-2025, as well as the Result 2.2 of the CMR UNSDCF (By 2026, gaps in critical socio-economic indicators are reduced, reflecting greater gender equality and progress in the empowerment of youth, women and girls, and other vulnerable groups, including those in humanitarian settings (SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17).
