Advancing partnerships & resourcing; Effectively influencing for impact & scale
In 2025, UN Women Myanmar continued to leverage and expand strategic partnerships to strengthen resource mobilization and support the delivery of gender equality programming, particularly for GBV survivors and women at risk. UN Women continued implementation of the second phase of the Joint Programme with UNFPA on GBV prevention and response , funded by the French Government, serving as the Administrative Agent . Within this partnership, UN Women led the design and delivery of livelihoods services and community mobilization to address harmful social norms, while UNFPA led specialized GBV service provision. This coordinated approach strengthened referral pathways, enhanced programme coherence, and maximized the comparative advantages of each agency. Building on existing collaboration, UN Women Myanmar secured new financing to expand livelihoods and recovery support for GBV survivors. In 2025, UN Women designed, negotiated, and signed an agreement with the European Union for the REACH project , a livelihoods and social norms change initiative. While administratively separate from UNFPA’s Women and Girls First (WGF) programme, REACH was deliberately designed to complement WGF by providing livelihood opportunities to GBV survivors referred by UNFPA partners, reinforcing inter-agency coordination and supporting the sustainability of survivor-centred outcomes. In parallel, UN Women strengthened joint advocacy and inter-agency collaboration for survivor-centred responses by working with WFP and UNFPA to develop a new Joint Programme addressing the needs of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) survivors , which was submitted to the Japan SBF through UN Action , reflecting a coordinated approach to advocacy and resource mobilization. Operating in a high-risk and restricted environment , UN Women Myanmar also strengthened donor visibility and advocacy through safe, targeted communications, including events, briefings, presentations, and campaigns, while maintaining selective digital and global advocacy efforts such as the 16 Days of Activism . Communications prioritised partner safety, donor recognition, and evidence-based storytelling, and were complemented by capacity-building support that enabled women-led partners to engage in advocacy despite limited resources.
Advancing partnerships & resourcing; Effectively influencing for impact & scale
In 2 024 UN Women Myanmar continued to leverage our existing partnerships to conduct joint communications activities to highlight the situation of women and girls in Myanmar and the work of UNW and our partners, while maintaining a security-informed approach. We produced a second explainer article as part of a broader UNCG effort to make accessible information on the UN’s work in Myanmar available, through an article explaining the approach and need for Gender in Humanitarian Action: One Size Doesn’t Fit All: Why Gender Matters in Humanitarian Response: In partnership with UNFPA and CSO partners that are part of the GIHA Working Group, UN Women Myanmar made data available on the gendered impact of severe flooding that impacted Myanmar following Typhoon Yagi in September through Gender-Impact Flash Updates. Two issues were released in October and November highlighting disaster impacts, gendered responses, and the expertise of the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group and setting a template for future crises. UN Women Myanmar led advocacy efforts through the UN Gender Theme Group (co-chaired with UNFPA) for International Women’s Day, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and other key awareness days. Key results included: Joint statement from UN Women and UNFPA: It’s time to invest in women and girls for a safer, more gender-equal Myanmar . a partner toolkit , key messages and other resources to support UNCT and implementing partners to advocate on International Women’s Day. Public events in Yangon for International Women’s Day and Pride Month organised in partnership with the French Embassy in Yangon and the French Institute. UNCT joint statement for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: #NoExcuse.
