Outcome insights and achievements
Outcome progress note for the year
Socio-economic recovery and resilience of women displaced by conflict in North Nigeria (and other conflict-affected areas) is promoted, through UN Women efforts
-Utilizing the protection through empowerment approach, UN Women Nigeria supported 500 conflict-affected women and young women through income generation skills training to expand their livelihood opportunities in Borno State. The income generations training has helped women to improve income, support their families to build resilience and overcome the impact of conflict as well as escape protection risks. -180 women, who are representatives of women's organizations, were trained on COVID-19, SGBV prevention and response, as well as leadership skills (including communication, conflict management, advocacy skills, confidence building, self-assertiveness decision making, mobilization skills, community engagements/outreaches). Trainings conducted strengthened women's leadership and meaningful participation all decision-making processes in addressing the COVID-19 outbreak and GBV response. Through their weekly megaphone campaigns, use of IEC/BCC materials and one-on-one approach, they were able to reach 263,579 people. -Increased prevention and hygiene standards were achieved thanks to the installment of 60 hand washing stations located at strategic points in three target IDP camps in Borno State. -301 IDP women and girls have now knowledge of the Family Business Scheme model and have therefore business management, leadership and life-skills that will enable them to develop their business ideas and plans to sustain their families. After the training, a sum was given to each of the beneficiaries to run their income generation activities (IGAs) and thereafter Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) were established. Ninety seven percent (97%) of these businesses were successful. This project managed to strengthen the leadership and active participation of women and girls towards the socioeconomic recovery of their community through support for women whose means of livelihood had been destroyed by the COVID-19 pandemic. - Community participation, including men and boys, was strengthened to create safer and more inclusive and supportive environments for IDPs and vulnerable women and girls, thanks to the establishment of 3 Camp Based COVID-19 and GBV Response Committees (mixed sex committee) whose members trained on COVID-19, GBV and harmful practices, negative and positive masculinity, and various advocacy and leadership skills. Committees held monthly forums, which were attended by a total of 789 persons. - Institutional support was provided to a grassroots women-led organization based in Yobe state that was affected by the pandemic. The support enabled the CSO to continue the planned project activities, including those on COVID-19 prevention and awareness in local communities, thanks to the fact that it was able to retain some key permanent staff, retain the office building and pay bills for five critical months. Its staff has now new appropriate tools to deliver activities during the pandemic as well as increased knowledge to use technological tools to be able to work from home.
