Outcome insights and achievements
Outcome progress note for the year
Conflict Prevention: Women are represented and effectively participate in executive, legislative, and security decision-making processes related to conflict prevention- at local, state and federal levels in Nigeria
Through advocacy initiatives supported by UN Women, 17 women were elected as supervisory councilors for the first time in 20 years since the creation of Yobe state. Conflict-affected women were also represented by women-led organizations in the humanitarian and early recovery processes at the sub-national and regional levels where they contributed to the production of the Humanitarian Needs Overview consultation process and the Lake Chad Basin Territorial Action Plan. UN Women provided technical support to Women-led organizations in Yobe State to contribute to the development of the Social Protection Policy. Their inputs specifically highlighted the need to include women specific needs in social protection programmes. Additionally, women-led/rights organizations across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states were mobilized to participate in the development of the Lake Chad Basin Territorial Action Plan. Selected women-led organizations were identified to lead or co-lead thematic areas to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. UN Women also mobilized and provided technical and financial support to 200 women led organizations in Yobe and Adamawa states to lead campaign on ending violence against women and girls. In Yobe state, radio program and advocacy were conducted by WLO targeting traditional leaders and Political Chieftains on women participation in politics. While in Adamawa sate, awareness interventions on violence against women were conducted by women leaders including sensitization on Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.
Conflict Prevention: Women are represented and effectively participate in executive, legislative, and security decision-making processes related to conflict prevention- at local, state and federal levels in Nigeria
