    Summary of country programme

UN Women Libya has accompanied the peace process since 2018 in cooperation with the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). As a joint Conflict Cluster Office (CCO) with Tunisia, and in-country presence, UN Women Libya works with national institutions, UN partner agencies and women’s groups across a range of pressing issues in a challenging context of political turmoil and insecurity. Based on its recent support to mainstream gender and the needs of marginalized groups across the UN’s focus areas for 2023-2025, UN Women Libya’s priorities include:

Women’s Participation in Governance and Public Life

    Women Peace and Security (WPS)

Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW), especially Online Violence and Political Violence

    Women’s Economic Empowerment

UN Women Libya co-chairs UNSDCF’s Pillar 1 (Governance and Peace) together with UNSMIL and UNDP, and contributes to Pillars 2 (Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Recovery and Development) and 3 (Social and Human Capital Development). Additionally, UN Women Libya has established and co-chairs the Gender Working Group (GWG), the singular nexus for gender equality coordination for all UN entities and international partners with a presence in Libya.
