    Summary of country programme

In Moldova, UN Women remains committed to three programmatic areas and works with national and local authorities, civil society, private sector, and women, including those facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, to ensure that:

Women lead, participate in, and benefit equally from governance systems. UN Women works to ensure that there is sustained commitment towards increasing women’s political participation, leadership and equal meaningful participation in decision-making and peace processes at all levels.

Women have income security, decent work, and economic autonomy. UN Women works towards achieving equal distribution of care work between women and men, proactively advancing women and girls in male-dominated professions, particularly in STEM, building women’s capacities for an increased access to economic opportunities and labour market participation.

All women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence. UN Women acts to ensure prevention, protection, support, and integrated services for survivors of gender-based violence in line with the Istanbul Convention, ratified by the country in October 2021, while harmful social norms are tackled through innovative practices.
