Enhanced quality of programmes through knowledge, innovation, RBM and evaluation
Lessons were extracted from recommendations and best practices identified in the midterm review of the current Strategic Note (SN MTR) 2019-2023 and in 2 project final evaluations (1 on Strengthening Social Cohesion, funded by the government of Japan and 1 on strengthening local conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms, funded by the Peacebuilding Fund), and actions required to improve delivery and enhance the quality of the programme were accounted for in the planning of new interventions commencing in the reporting period and in the following year of 2022. In the context of passing presidency of the UN Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC) from Burundi to Gabon, UN Women Burundi participated in the 52 nd UNSAC meeting in Libreville in November 2021. Security risks in the region including climate change impacts, COVID-19, terrorism and piracy were discussed and decisions were made on continued collaboration between institutional stakeholders to address these challenges. UN Women contributed to the drafting of policy briefs to be presented at the meeting by providing its UN Women Burundi has initiated the development of an up-to-date Country Gender Equality Profile for Burundi in partnership with the African Development Bank, the Swiss Cooperation Office in Burundi, and the Ministry of National Solidarity, Human Rights, and Gender. In a context where there is a lacune of gender-development related national statistics, the CGEP will serve as an important reference document for government bodies, and actors in development, gender equality, and human rights. The Terms of Reference have been produced jointly with partners and the initiative will be finalised in early 2022.

This reporting period, the Burundi Country Office published 5 studies it has undertaken on various thematic areas related to gender and disseminated the knowledge products to other UN agencies and development partners to better integrate gender into their programmes and projects . Trainings on results-based management were delivered to staff and implementing partners to ensure that RBM principles are observed in the UN Women Burundi programme. Efforts to further digitalise operations with the aim of increasing efficiency were also undertaken, including a digital monitoring platform (still in its pilot phase) and an online shared library/archive to enable staff to openly access operational and programmatic documents , reducing institutional silos and increasing internal collaboration. In 2023, the digital platform will be further developed and trainings on its utilization will be delivered to expand use/users.
