i-icon World Bank Income Classification:Low Income The World Bank classifies economies for analytical purposes into four income groups: low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high income. For this purpose it uses gross national income (GNI) per capita data in U.S. dollars, converted from local currency using the World Bank Atlas method, which is applied to smooth exchange rate fluctuations. i-icon Least Developed Country:Yes Since 1971, the United Nations has recognized LDCs as a category of States that are deemed highly disadvantaged in their development process, for structural, historical and also geographical reasons. Three criteria are used: per capita income, human assets, and economic vulnerability. i-icon Gender Inequality Index:0.575 GII is a composite metric of gender inequality using three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment and the labour market. A low GII value indicates low inequality between women and men, and vice-versa. i-icon Gender Development Index:0.723 GDI measures gender inequalities in achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: health, education, and command over economic resources.

About our work

Viet Nam

UN Women’s Strategy Note (SN) for Viet Nam 2022-2026 aims to significantly advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the country. Fully aligned with both Viet Nam’s United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2026 and the global UN Women Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the SN aims to support Viet Nam in achieving its national development priorities and the SDGs, in particular SDG5, so that no women or girls are left behind.

We build on the knowledge and lessons learned from previous years aiming to work better, broaden our reach and impact, and pursue long-term sustainability through all our normative, coordination, and programmatic interventions.

Working with national and international partners, UN Women addresses gender-based inequalities and discrimination, and promotes behavioral and social norms change.

Programming focuses on four thematic areas to drive results to complex and inter-connected challenges, and emphasizes collaboration across silos:

  • Gender and Climate Change, Humanitarian Action (HA), and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
  • Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE)
  • Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG)
  • Women Peace and Security (WPS)
