Increased engagement of partners in support of UN-Women’s mandate

Given the evolving development and humanitarian donor priorities in the region, Chile’s status as a high-income country, the current national political landscape, and continued pressures exerted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the partnerships and resource mobilization efforts in 2021 focused on achieving the three following outcomes: Develop a responsive resource mobilization strategy tailored to the current funding landscape, and take key actions to better position the office to be a funding recipient in this context. To contribute to this end, UN Women in Chile hired a consulting firm to carry out a contextual analysis to better understand and direct resource mobilization efforts. As part of this analysis, a mapping of private sector entities and foundations was conducted alongside 25 in-depth interviews to better understand the main needs and priorities of these organizations to tailor future engagement. The interviews revealed that a majority of these organizations would be willing to finance UN Women initiatives through a membership, to pay UN Women for a consulting service to promote gender equality programmes and policies within their organization, and/or invest in training programmes on gender equality for their employees. These findings led to the development of a model for an Advisory Services Menu which will be finalized in 2022, to generate new funding streams to continue strengthening UNW’s work with the private sector and the WEPs Community in Chile. Further, the office developed the business case to convert Chile into a Country Office, with a view of improving, among other things, the office’s organizational positioning to mobilize resources with private, public and multilateral actors. The office also hired a resource mobilization consultant in the last quarter to support the development of the RM plan, the country office business case, alongside proposals, concept notes and due diligence processes to help transform conversations into tangible opportunities, accelerate processes and successfully secure new funds with potential partners and donors. Secure ongoing funding for flagship programmes in Chile As part of resource mobilization efforts, UN Women in Chile, through its Second Chance Education ( Tu Oportunidad ) and Originarias Programmes, provided outstanding results and on-time donor reports to demonstrate key programme impacts and accomplishment, alongside concrete opportunities for each programme to be extended and expanded, in terms of their actions and geographical reach. The presentation of these results and negotiations with their respective donors, Teck and BHP Foundation, have enabled both programmes to be extended in time and available resources. In the case of BHP Foundation, additional funds of approximately USD 900.000 have been secured through 2023, and in the case of Teck, funds have been secured through 2022 and are currently being negotiated for a fourth project phase. The Originarias programme has been implemented since 2016 and Tu Oportunidad since 2018. Proactively engage in conversations and develop proposals with new potential partners The office further engaged in conversations with potential partners and developed proposals to explore possibilities for new alliances with a view of developing lines of work that promote women’s political and economic empowerment, women in STEM, climate change and disaster response-related initiatives in Chile. These efforts have: Secured US $279,000 for the implementation of the Gender and Constitution project, provided by HQ with WiPF funds. Secured US$60,000 to support the project on gender in security sector reform, provided by EVAW HQ based on funds from the Government of Australia. Renewed the contribution of the Government of Chile for US$93,000 to strengthen the Office's presence in the country. secured an additional hard pipeline commitment of US$ 150.000 by Coca-Cola Chile for 2022; secured a US$ 50,000 grant from the World Bank for 2022; led to progress in discussion/negotiations for joint programmes in Chile with numerous companies, including seven companies in the last quarter alone. provided support to the regional office in the development of programme proposals that would include Chile among target countries, including two in the last quarter; advanced seven due diligence processes for Chile and certain RO requests with a view of completing RM requirements for private sector partnerships. Beyond these achievements, the office continued to invest efforts to intensify its relationship with public sector entities to mobilize National Public Funds, with the United Nations System for Interagency and Multi-Partner Funds, as well as the European Union and Traditional Donors. Other alliances: UN Women also established coordination and alliances with other actors that although they do not translate into financial resources do contribute to the management of the Office's programming: - Agreements with the Municipalities of San Pedro de Atacama, Padre las Casas and Renca to implement the MPTF project. - Agreements with Corfo, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Women and other public institutions that provided their programmatic offers to feed the "Mujeresemplea" page. - Agree
