Namibia, the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa, is progressing towards upper-middle-income country status despite enduring socioeconomic inequalities rooted in apartheid. Guided by its Vision 2030, which aims to reduce inequality and poverty, Namibia is preparing its sixth National Development Plan and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2025/26–2030/31). UN Women aligns its efforts with these plans, prioritizing women’s economic empowerment, the prevention of gender-based violence and HIV prevention among young women, particularly under the Spotlight 2.0 initiative.
Interventions are implemented mostly in socioeconomically disadvantaged regions, including in Windhoek and rural areas, building on national development and poverty eradication strategies.
UN Women partners with the UN country team, Resident Coordinator’s Office and Gender Theme Group on robust gender analysis, monitoring and reporting.
