In the G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders Declaration, countries committed to promoting gender equality and all women's rights as a prerequisite for economic development by ensuring women's full participation in the workforce and leadership roles. The Global Alliance against Hunger, created in the context of the Brazilian Presidency of the Task Force on Climate Change, incorporated an intersectional gender equality approach. They emphasized the importance of gender equality in paid and unpaid care work, condemned all forms of discrimination against women and girls, and highlighted the need for gender equality in environmental policies. The Leaders Declaration underscored the commitment to fulfilling the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and implementing the G20 Roadmap Towards and Beyond the Brisbane Goal to close the gender pay gap. These are pivotal in driving the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), ensuring a comprehensive approach to sustainable development. The ripple effect of addressing gender-responsive climate action and care work at this level is far-reaching, encouraging international organizations and governments to adopt similar priorities. Equality including Care, ii. Ending misogyny and violence against women, and iii. Climate Justice. For the first time, the G20 had a side event dedicated to gender equality in the Finance Track, resulting in a list of recommendations. It was also the first time it discussed the role of public development banks to foster the economic empowerment of Afro Descendant women. UN Women played a key role in this outcome by providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Women, the W20 delegates and other partners aiding in priority setting, generating platforms for debate social mobilization and providing inputs to discussions and supporting the use of evidence and data to guide decision-making.
