With support of Irish Aid, UN Women implemented the Gender Needs Integrated into COVID-19 Response in Sierra Leone Project which had the overall objective of systematically addressing the specific gender differential dimensions and needs of women and girls within the context of COVID-19 in Sierra Leone in order to achieve Gender Responsive COVID-19. They following key outcomes were achieved: The establishment of two One Stop Centres in Pujehun and Kailahun providing free SGBV services. The development of gender mainstreaming tools to be used during the COVID 19 response. The deployment of two gender experts to NACOVERC and one communications officer to support the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs response to COVID-19. Engaging men and boys through sensitization and awareness raising of youth ambassadors to raise awareness of the amended Sexual Offences Act 2019 Support to six local Women’s organizations to implement gender-responsive programming addressing the COVID-19 crisis in the areas of ending violence against Women and girls, promoting women’s leadership in the COVID-19 response and Women’s peace and security in border areas. Built synergy with NACOVERC and DICOVERC and CSOs to reinforce the need for women’s representation in complex emergencies. Conducted a Gender Rapid Assessment of COVID-19 Impact Survey
Enhanced Coordination coherence and accountability of UN system for commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment.
The UNCT in Sierra Leone under the overall leadership of the Resident Coordinator and technical leadership of UN Women facilitated a series of consultations and interviews to assess and carry out and priorities it’s commitments for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment through the Gender Scorecard . The Inter-Agency assessment Team (IAT) comprised of representatives from nine agencies and the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) as follows: ILO, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women, WHO, IOM and WFP did a self assessment . The overall results reveal that the UNCT Sierra Leone has met minimum standards for two (2) of the fifteen (15 ) indicators. Nine (9) indicators score as approaching minimum standards, and Four (4) are missing the minimum standards. The Women Political Participation with funding from UN Women HQ/SIDA was developed to build on previous projects and processes aimed at supporting women’s access to elective positions and promoting women’s leadership and eliminating violence against women in politics with special focus on the development of a new project document and to support the new electoral legal reforms. The two focus areas of the project were achieved; a new project prodoc has been developed but a few modifications are being undertaken currently to address emerging issues not earlier articulated. The support for a new electoral legal reform was undertaken; financial and technical support were provided for the review and presentation of the Gender Empowerment Bill 2021 to Parliament through the minister of Gender with support from several Development Partners including Civil Society Organisations, UN FamiliyWomen and youth groups, and partners. The bill was massively popularised at national and districts levels and the bill was presented to the parliament through the ministry of Gender; the Parliament accepted the bill and unilaterally endorsed and allowed the bill to pass the first reading. The bill is now being technically reviewed and preparation for second reading is ongoing. UN Women provided training for the UNCT monitoring and evaluation group in the area of mainstreaming gender into programming.

To institutionalize a strong culture of results-based management, reporting, knowledge management and evaluation
The Country office summitted quarterly reports on a timely basis. In addition the Country office contributed t report for the UNDAF through the results group
Management and Operations, including donor reporting
Donor reporting was implemented during the period under review. Donor reports were submitted to Republic of Germany, Republic of China and Irish Aid . Management action was also carried out to ensure necessary management reports were submitted on a timely basis
