    Outcome insights and achievements

Outcome progress note for the year

Low income women entrepreneurs (micro-entrepreneurs and members of co-operatives) better manage their enterprises for decent jobs and income security and/or autonomy

The outcome was partly achieved in South Africa, Botswana Namibia although the quantitative indicator was not measured due to COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions. Collection of comprehensive data to measure the quantitative outcome indicators was not possible due to movement restrictions most of the year but telephonic interviews were conducted that demonstrated the programme had contributed to better management of enterprises. The entrepreneurs reported the skills and knowledge they had gained from AWOME Programme helped them to survive the pandemic or access finances. For Instance; The entrepreneurs had learnt to keep business records and these records enabled them to apply for government funding because records were a requirement in the application. The records also enabled the entrepreneurs to demonstrate their business cashflow which was a requirement in the application processes. Some entrepreneurs had registered their businesses after learning about the value of registration in AWOME. The registration allowed them to apply for support from government since registration was a requirement. Marketing module enabled the entrepreneurs to explore and apply different strategies in marketing their businesses during lockdown e.g. social media.

Low income women entrepreneurs (micro-entrepreneurs and members of co-operatives) better manage their enterprises for decent jobs and income security and/or autonomy

A total number of 2246 women micro-entrepreneurs in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa have secured jobs for themselves through their participation in the AWOME programme that assisted them to put business management systems in place through the SIYB trainings for income security for themselves.
