Summary of country programme

UN Women’s Brazil Strategic Note 2024–2027 addresses intersecting gender, racial and economic inequalities exacerbated by political shifts and the pandemic. Active nationwide, including in the Legal Amazon, it aims to help realize the rights of diverse women and girls.

The programme focuses on governance and participation, economic empowerment and ending violence against women, emphasizing intersectionality and structural change. Initiatives in Pará, Maranhão and Belém do Pará use feminist, anti-racist and care economy approaches, including in partnerships for climate justice and gender-responsive budgeting.

Key partnerships with national ministries, feminist movements, UN entities and companies that have signed the Women’s Empowerment Principles support transformative outcomes. Backed by Strategic Note direct funding from the Open Society Foundation, Gucci’s Chime for Change and the Ford Foundation, UN Women promotes systemic changes through inclusive policy reform, data use, and regional and South-South cooperation.
