Summary of country programme

UN Women’s Caribbean Multi-Country Office Strategic Note 2022–2026 addresses gender equality and women's empowerment in a context of multiple vulnerabilities, including a combination of high debt, existential climate risks and socioeconomic challenges exacerbated by COVID-19. UN Women is active in 22 small island developing States; key locations include Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, with project offices in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The programme focuses on four main areas: normative frameworks, women's economic empowerment, ending violence against women and girls, and climate change and disaster risk resilience. Approaches include capacity-building for gender statistics and strengthening micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises owned by marginalized groups.

Major partnerships with UN entities, the Caribbean Community and other regional institutions, governments, civil society and international donors enhance effectiveness. Expected outcomes include improved gender statistics, equitable access to social services, innovative financing and enhanced disaster risk resilience.
