Summary of country programme

UN Women’s Kyrgyzstan Strategic Note 2023–2027 advances gender equality and women's empowerment by addressing political, socioeconomic and cultural barriers, , including in Batken, Osh, Jalalabad and Chui.

The programme prioritizes eliminating gender-based violence; enhancing women's participation in peace, politics and decision-making; and promoting economic opportunities. A systems-thinking approach unpacks current challenges and steers structural changes, including through shifts in power dynamics and negative social norms.

Major partners include government ministries, local non-governmental organizations, the private sector, the UN country team, the governments of Sweden and the United Kingdom, the European Union, and international organizations such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation. These collaborations strengthen programmatic reach and effectiveness. Strategic Note direct funding supports the National Action Plan for Gender Equality, Beijing+30, national participation in the UN Commission on the Status of Women, and coordination for greater impact at the policy and grass-roots levels.
