UN Women’s Nepal Strategic Note 2023–2027 promotes gender equality and women’s empowerment by addressing structural barriers limiting women’s access to economic growth, social protection, leadership, and participation in sustainable development.
The Strategic Note seeks to strengthen women’s access to economic opportunities, gender-responsive climate action and disaster risk reduction; address gender discriminatory social norms; and promote women’s leadership and participation in governance, peace and security. Key strategies include working with women’s rights organizations and applying nested/holistic approaches to advocacy and capacity-building.
Key partners comprise the Government; UN country team; international development partners such as the governments of Australia, Finland, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden and the United Kingdom; the European Union; civil society organizations; the private sector and the media. Strategic Note direct funding from the Government of Finland has been crucial for amplifying the voice and agency of women, especially those from vulnerable groups.
