Outcome progress note for the year

    UN System Coordination

In 2025, the Gender Thematic Group of the United Nations System in Mali (GTG-UNS) consolidated its role as the central mechanism for integrating gender equality into the policies, programmes and planning frameworks of UN agencies in the country. The GTG coordinated key strategic processes, including the UNCT-SWAP Gender Scorecard exercise , the evaluation of the Joint Gender Strategy 2016–2019 (extended to 2024) , and the development of the new Joint Gender Strategy 2026–2030 , validated by the UN Country Team. The group also ensured that gender considerations were fully integrated into the evaluation of the UNSDCF 2020–2024 , the development of the Common Country Assessment (CCA) , and the design of the new UNSDCF 2026–2030 . The GTG continued to strengthen institutional capacities through its 2025 annual retreat , focusing on accountability tools (UNCT-SWAP, GEAP), monitoring mechanisms, and operational planning. A costed annual workplan was adopted alongside strategic recommendations to optimize interventions in 2026. To enhance access to knowledge, the GTG developed a digital gender information and documentation platform , administered by UN Women, which will serve as a reference resource for institutions, researchers, and partners. The GTG also coordinated the UN System’s support to the Government of Mali for the celebration of International Women’s Rights Day , as well as for the participation of the Malian delegation in the CSW69 in New York, in alignment with the One UN approach. Through its sustained engagement, the GTG-UNS contributes to embedding gender equality in public policies, strengthening institutional capacities, and ensuring coherence and harmonization across UN interventions in Mali.

    UN System Coordination

The UN country team in Mali has made significant progress in gender mainstreaming.

    UN System Coordination

Within the framework of the coordination of gender actions at the level of the United Nations System Agencies in Mali, progress has been made in terms of planning, implementation and reporting: The UNS Gender Thematic Group (GTG-SNU) in Mali has carried out the UNCT-SWAP Gender Score Card exercise for the UN Country Team in Mali. This exercise relates to the progress made by the UN country team in Mali in terms of gender mainstreaming during the UNSDCF 2020-2024 cycle. The GTG successfully ensured that the gender dimension was taken into account in the evaluation process for the UNSDCF 2020-2024 cooperation framework, as well as in the development of the CCA 2023. In addition to the efforts of GTG members, a gender expert was recruited by the GTG to support the process. The same gender expert is expected to ensure that gender is taken into account in the development of the new cooperation framework 2025-2029. The GTG carried out an evaluation of the UNS Mali Joint Gender Strategy 2016-2019, which was extended to 2024, and developed the new UNS Joint Gender Strategy 2025-2029. This exercise was facilitated by a team of consultants (national and international) recruited by GTG. The GTG reviewed the 3 flagship programs: Education, Renewable Energies and Food Security of the UN Country Team in Mali to ensure that gender was effectively taken into account in these programs.
