Nurturing an empowerment workforce and advancing an inclusive UN Women culture
During 2024, in line with the difficult context of Niger, UN Women focused on capacity building, coacthing and local monitoring to boost the effectiveness of the office's intervention: Staff, state and civil society partners now have a better knowledge of UN Women's organizational culture through a series of trainings; monitoring and accommodations organized by UN Women's STFFS during the year. All funded partners have been strengthened on the management of UN Women's financial procedures, results-based management, communication and knowledge management. More than 158 state frameworks have been strengthened by UN Women on gender mainstreaming including the PBSG, RBM, the Women, Peace agenda and UN Women's administrative and financial procedures. Mechanisms and platforms for virtual and face-to-face exchanges have been set up and regularly led by UN Women staff, especially the cross-functional staff (Monitoring and Evaluation, Knowledge Management, Partnership and Resource Mobilization, Communication and Digitalization) who have developed annual plans in line with the objectives of the office's annual plan.
Assure an accountable organization through principled performance
In terms of contract diversity and security, the office increased the number of FTA and TA SC contracts, including 5 new ones (TA FTA), one of which is international, to strengthen technical expertise within the Niger office. In 2024, the office benefited from staff support dedicated to HR, which facilitated the monitoring of the individual performance of FTA, TA, SC and UNV colleagues. The support also made it possible to be more efficient in the processes of recruiting new staff and renewing contracts on time. A capacity-building mechanism for staff is underway, particularly with regard to proxy courses and training opportunities with the regional office. An effort must be made to support colleagues in managing their careers, and in building specific technical skills according to the profile of each staff member.
Effective normative, programmatic and coordination products, services, and processes:
UN Women Niger improved its project and program management in 2024 at the beginning of the year thanks to a program-based planning approach that is already creating synergy between the office's various projects and programs. At the start of the year, the office had already drawn up acceleration plans for the implementation of each project and program. Based on these operational plans, a monitoring system has been set up, focusing on results through the development of monitoring and evaluation tools and training, with a monitoring schedule and various reports, including Knowledge Products (evaluation reports, study reports, periodic narrative reports, donor reports and field mission report ). More specifically - 10 donor reports were produced and uploaded to DAMS in 2024. These included one annual report (2023), 8 donor reports and 2 joint monitoring reports on the implementation of joint projects; - Two baseline study reports were conducted produced and disseminated, shared with key donors, a database of the office's knowledge products, Support for the development of results frameworks, support for project selection through regional and local project evaluation committees (RPAC and LPAC) and training sessions for IPS contributed to the achievement of this result. The 2025 annual work plan was drawn up taking into account the strategic note, the 2022-2025 strategic plan and the results of the United Nations Development Cooperation Fund (UNSDCF). The duration of the Strategic Note and UNSDCF has been extended by one year. The evaluation of the strategic note and the evaluation of the project financed by Spain were finalized.
