    Outcome insights and achievements

Outcome progress note for the year

Advancing partnerships & resourcing; Effectively influencing for impact & scale:

In 2025, UN Women Somalia strengthened access to diversified and pooled financing to sustain and scale GEWE results across governance, peacebuilding, and economic empowerment. The Office: Secured funding through the Somalia Joint Fund (SJF) for Phase II of the Women’s Political Participation (WPP) project, ensuring continuity and expanded reach of women’s leadership and political inclusion initiatives. Mobilized resources under the Japan Supplementary Budget, supporting targeted interventions on gender equality and women’s resilience within humanitarian–development–peace programming. Advanced a soft funding pipeline with the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) under two windows focusing on (i) participatory dialogue and (ii) institutionalization of the National Human Rights Commission, positioning UN Women to strengthen inclusive governance and rights-based peacebuilding. Strengthened partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) through a dedicated project supporting gender-responsive economic empowerment

Advancing partnerships & resourcing; Effectively influencing for impact & scale:

UN WOMEN SOMALIA CPM successfully presented and advocated with the UN COUNTRY TEAM and the OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT TEAM (OMT) for allocation of budgets through cost-shared budgets for implementation of GTG 2024 work plan priorities in the last quarter in 2023. UNW CPM presented the concept note to the UNCT for allocation of cost-shared budget, which was referred by UNCT to the OMT for review. On behalf of the UN GTG, UNW CPM presented the concept note and the request for allocation of cost-shared budgets by the United Nations in Somalia. Following deliberations and presentation of key priorities by UN Women the OMT cleared the proposal and referred it to the UNCT for perusal and endorsement. In a historic decision, the UNCT through a facilitated discussion by the UN Women on behalf of the UN Gender Theme Group (GTG) APPROVED the allocation of $ 149,800 for Year 1 in 2024 resources to UN Women through costs shared by 23 UN entities in Somalia for implementation of the below mentioned priorities. Through this the UNCT has not only supported the implementation of priority strategic activities of the GTG Work Plan but also successfully mobilized and demonstrated commitment of the entire UN System (UNCT-23 entities) in support of UN Coordination and commitments on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in Somalia.
