Summary of country programme

UN Women’s Uganda Strategic Note 2022–2025 aims to advance gender equality and women's empowerment across the country, including in refugee settlements. The programme addresses socioeconomic challenges exacerbated by COVID-19, focusing on inclusive growth and resilience-building.

The programme prioritizes women's economic empowerment, leadership in governance, ending violence against women and girls, and improving access to social services. Key locations include rural areas, refugee settlements and regions with high rates of gender-based violence. Approaches encompass capacity-building, policy advocacy and community engagement.

Core partners are the Government of Uganda, civil society organizations and UN organizations. Significant outcomes are women's greater participation in governance and reduced gender-based violence. Strategic Note direct funding supports innovation and digital technology, capacity-building and policy implementation, enhancing the programme's impact and sustainability.
