For this purpose it uses gross national income (GNI) per capita data in U.S. dollars, converted from local currency using the World Bank Atlas method, which is applied to smooth exchange rate fluctuations. i-icon Least Developed Country:Yes Since 1971, the United Nations has recognized LDCs as a category of States that are deemed highly disadvantaged in their development process, for structural, historical and also geographical reasons. Three criteria are used: per capita income, human assets, and economic vulnerability. i-icon Gender Inequality Index:0.575 GII is a composite metric of gender inequality using three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment and the labour market. A low GII value indicates low inequality between women and men, and vice-versa. i-icon Gender Development Index:0.723 GDI measures gender inequalities in achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: health, education, and command over economic resources.

Haïtian women, with a special focus on victims of violence, have increased access to justice services

The Covid-19 pandemic coupled with the high impact of the social and economic context and the political instability tinged with a high level of insecurity have disrupted the political processes and GEWE work within governance systems in Haiti and, have somewhat slowed down the few progresses made by the country in the face of specific challenges related to access to justice services. Consequently, UN Women-Haiti has not been able to achieve thoroughly this outcome in 2021. Despite of this, UN Women-Haiti contributed to improve the justices’ services through capacity-building programmes for staff of the Directorate of Prison Administration (DAP). With the Perspectives pour la Santé et le Développement (PESADEV)’s technical support, 30 members of DAP were strengthened in the field of psychosocial support for inmate’s and, 87 detainees from three (3) prisons located in Les Cayes (23 women), Cabaret (44 women) and Cap-Haitien (20) were benefited individual and group therapy sessions jointly with DAP social workers, psychologists and trainees in social work and psychology. Coupled to the training on the Bangkok Rules, this support will intend to improve conditions of detention for women prisoners Moreover, the Country Office plans to set up a mechanism to provide support for the economic recovery measures of liberated women and to the Prison Contingency Plan. Similarly, an intensive legal aid and awareness-raising programme was deployed (in the South, Grand-Anse and North-East) reaching 179 representatives of local authorities and CSOs (118 women and 61 men) working in legal assistance to victims of GBV on the provision of quality essential services, including access to justice for women and girls survivors of violence.326 women and girls survivors of violence in 3 geographical departments (Nord-est-Sud and Grand-Anse) benefited from the services (legal assistance, psychosocial support and others) provided by CSOs benefiting from the capacity-building program.11 women's organizations in 3 geographical departments (North-East, South and Grand-Anse) working in legal assistance benefited from a capacity-building programme in the delivery of quality legal services to women and girls survivors of violence.
