Active in Kazakhstan since 1999, UN Women has worked in partnership with the Government, national partners, civil society, educational institutions, the private sector, and media to ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Our triple mandate includes:
• Support Kazakhstan in strengthening integration of global norms and standards and delivering international commitments in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment;
• Implement operational activities including support for the development and implementation of gender-sensitive laws, policies, strategies, programs and projects;
• Coordinate increased gender mainstream, accountability and results within the UN system for gender equality and women's empowerment.
UN Women Kazakhstan activities support national development priorities and implementation of Kazakhstan’s international gender equality commitments, particularly in:
• Women’s economic empowerment
• Ending violence against women
• National planning and budgeting
Also, UN Women Kazakhstan oversees the work of the UN inter-agency and extended Gender Thematic Groups, coordinates initiatives with CSOs through the Civil Society Advisory Groups, implements awareness raising and advocacy initiatives on gender equality, and collaborates with the private sector to promote women’s economic empowerment.
