To drive more effective and efficient United Nations system coordination and strategic partnerships on gender equality and women’s empowerment
The CO played an important coordination role as the led entity in the country to coordinate all gender related issues and events within the United Nations System and with the Government and civil society/women’s organizations. In 2021, the CO engaged UN agencies and civil society organizations and supported the Ministry of Gender with the preparation and development of a joint plan which brought together a wide range of activities leveraging the CO comparative advantage for the celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD), and 16 days of activism including financial and technical support for the implementation of the plan, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and with the Generation Equality (Facilitated the participation of representatives of the country in the Mexico city and Paris Forum; supported the government in the production of commitments on Generation Equality). The CO’s role in coordination was evidenced by its role as the main interlocutor and between the Government and the UN in mentioned events, including donor community. Evidence of the increase recognition of the role of UN Women as a legitimate lead entity in coordinating gender equality and women's empowerment issues is its participation in the Coalition of the willingness (a platform to reflect and provide policy in different development issues) as co-chair of two sub-groups namely: Women, Peace and Security and Gender-Based Violence and shadow pandemic, upon invitation of donor community in the country.
