    Outcome insights and achievements

Outcome progress note for the year

Positive coping mechanisms are promoted, for marginalized women and girls affected by protracted crises (in conflict, temporary shelters and host communities) in North East Nigeria and other affected areas, with UN Women support

In 2021, positive coping mechanisms for marginalized women and girls affected by protracted crises (in conflict, temporary shelters and host communities) in North East Nigeria were promoted through various livelihoods and life skills initiatives implemented by UN Women. Over 554 conflict-affected women and girls directly benefitted from these interventions implemented to overcome the impact of the crisis and build resilience and are now able to engage in income generation activities, earn an income and provide for their families. Women are also leading community initiatives on mitigating gender-based violence and preventing violence extremism among youths. During the year, UN Women established a Women’s Empowerment Hub and social cohesion centres in Yobe state, where an estimated 200 conflict affected women received information on social cohesion, access to income generation opportunities and where 150 women have been sensitized on early warning and disaster risk reduction and climate change. The information received enhanced women capacities to adopt positive coping mechanisms that serves to help them overcome the impact of the crisis and build economic and social resilience. Similarly, in Borno State, 204 conflict-affected (from internally displaced camps (IDP) and host communities) improved their knowledge on gender and women’s rights, reconciliation, negative effect of gender-based violence, prevention strategies. The Women Empowerment Hub and Social cohesion centres also serve as safe spaces for social cohesion where women meet to interact, share their concerns, develop practical solutions including addressing gender-based violence and resolving economic related challenges. Women accessing the hub/centre also reported that they have developed new positive coping mechanisms to escape sexual exploitation and that they have developed skills to participate in decision making structures in their communities on issues that affect them.

Positive coping mechanisms are promoted, for marginalized women and girls affected by protracted crises (in conflict, temporary shelters and host communities) in North East Nigeria and other affected areas, with UN Women support

To help women overcome the impact of the northeats conflict, various interventions focusing on GBV and economic recovery were undertaken reaching out to over 12500 women between the ages of 18 to 50
