Government of South Sudan fulfils international reporting obligations on CEDAW, Beijing Platform for Action, UNSCR 1325, Maputo Plan of Action and SDGs
On going support was provided to the government of South Sudan to implement the CEDAW actions and follow on work from the CEDAW report submitted in 2022. UN Women supported the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare to hold a three days consultative meetings on CEDAW country report and to respond to the questions raised by the CEDAW committee in Geneva. In addition, the CO supported the second generation of the South Sudan National Action Plan for UNSCR1325.

The Minister and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Gender Child and Social Welfare (MGCSW) participated in the CEDAW Treaty body 80th session on the initial first South Sudan Report on CEDAW which was historic as it was the first such dialogue South Sudan had engaged in before any human rights treaty body. Before the session, the MGCSW held a three days (3) meeting with various line Ministries to prepare responding questions raised by the steering Committee and the responses were submitted to the steering Committee. UN Women supported the MGCSW to organize the meeting to respond to the questions raised by the CEDAW steering committee on the South Sudan’s CEDAW report and shared the confidential to UNCT South Sudan and provided financial support to the government of South Sudan to travel and present their defend to the steering committee in Geneva.
