The recommendations of t he report will inform the development of , among others, a continent al acceleration plan for action by stakeholders at diff erent levels in A frica. As part of the partnership with the AUC-WGYD to advance and monitor the implementation of continental GEWE and women’s rights commitments, UN Women LO has supported the conceptualization and coordination of a high-level conference that aim ed s to assess progress towards the ratification and implementation of the Maputo Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa, a continental women’s rights legal framework. The LO has, as a result, been able to inform the agenda wh ich created a space for CSO, Member States and UN Women to share experiences from the field . I n addition, it positioned UN Women as a key partner to advance the coherent implementation of global and continenta l GEWE and women’s rights norms which contributed, among others, to the ratification by Botswana as the 46 th state party to the Protocol in November 2023 .

Effective system for monitoring and tracking progress on continental gender equality normative frameworks is in place and utilized by (2024 – 2026)

During the reporting year, the African Gender Youth Observatory (AGYO) advanced its efforts to monitor gender equality frameworks at the African Union level by enhancing data collection and analysis capabilities through advanced management systems. These systems enabled efficient handling of gender-disaggregated data, supporting accurate and timely analysis. Additionally, AGYO strengthened the capacity of stakeholders at continental, regional, and national levels by introducing learning modules on statistical methods, data visualization, and gender analysis. These modules provided continuous learning opportunities, equipping policymakers and advocates to effectively utilize gender data for policy and program development, despite financial constraints limiting in-person training.
