2023 was a difficult year for the Egypt CO. The economic crisis in the country , along side the Sudan and Gaza wars greatly added to the pressures of the office both at an office-wide and individual level. For enhanced team building, the ECO held two one-day retreats, and have focused providing the office with greater certaintiy in terms of individual career advancement. Mental health support was offered by the UNDSS stress counselor in response to Gaza. Under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2023-2027) and UN Women Egypt Country Office’s accompanying Strategic Note (2023-2027), it is important to ensure the UN Women Country Office’s structure reflects the commitments of scaling up programme investments, strengthening support to UN coordination on gender equality and women’s empowerment, and ensuring a continued right-sized office capacity to deliver as per UN Women’s corporate requirements. To this end, and under the UN Women Regional Office for Arab States, the UN Women Egypt Country Office conducted a light-touch functional review exercise to ensure that the current organisational and job design match existing functions and the current needs of the Egypt Country Office under the UNSDCF, ECO Strategic Note and new ERF system; and that the subsequent post levels are aligned with the Job Descriptions as per current UN Women global rules and regulations.

2024 remains a challenging year for the Egypt CO. The economic crisis in the country continues with a devaluation in the currency early on in Macrh alongside the continuation of the conflict in the region. These factors added to the pressures of the office both at an office-wide and individual level. Mental health support continues to be offered by the UNDSS stress counselor in response to Gaza as well as Lebanon. To this end and following the recommendations coming out of the 2023 light-touch functional review exercise, actions were put in place to carry out those recommendations and to ensure that the current organisational and job design match existing functions and the current needs of the Egypt Country Office under the UNSDCF, ECO Strategic Note and new ERP system.
