Advancing partnerships & resourcing; Effectively influencing for impact & scale
In 2 024 UN Women Myanmar continued to leverage our existing partnerships to conduct joint communications activities to highlight the situation of women and girls in Myanmar and the work of UNW and our partners, while maintaining a security-informed approach. We produced a second explainer article as part of a broader UNCG effort to make accessible information on the UN’s work in Myanmar available, through an article explaining the approach and need for Gender in Humanitarian Action: One Size Doesn’t Fit All: Why Gender Matters in Humanitarian Response: In partnership with UNFPA and CSO partners that are part of the GIHA Working Group, UN Women Myanmar made data available on the gendered impact of severe flooding that impacted Myanmar following Typhoon Yagi in September through Gender-Impact Flash Updates. Two issues were released in October and November highlighting disaster impacts, gendered responses, and the expertise of the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group and setting a template for future crises. UN Women Myanmar led advocacy efforts through the UN Gender Theme Group (co-chaired with UNFPA) for International Women’s Day, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and other key awareness days. Key results included: Joint statement from UN Women and UNFPA: It’s time to invest in women and girls for a safer, more gender-equal Myanmar . a partner toolkit , key messages and other resources to support UNCT and implementing partners to advocate on International Women’s Day. Public events in Yangon for International Women’s Day and Pride Month organised in partnership with the French Embassy in Yangon and the French Institute. UNCT joint statement for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls . 16 Days partner toolkit with key messages and resources aligned with global UN Women campaigns. Hybrid UN staff event for 16 Days, online and in person.
