UN Women Senegal has developed an inclusive approach to promoting staff capacities for effective application of procedures in accordance with the principles and values of the organization.

Strategic partnership to boost the visibility of UN Women mandate is reinforced in Senegal

UN-WOMEN has set up several strategic partnerships to operationalize its mandate and visibility. It has supported the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation and the Ministry of Interior in the elaboration of their gender audit, whose overall objective is to examine the gender approach in the organizational process and to promote learning for the effective and efficient integration of gender in the policies, programs, and projects of these ministries. In collaboration with partners such as the National Observatory of Parity, Dialogue, Security, Peace, Senegalese Council of Women, UN WOMEN has strengthened women's political leadership through awareness raising, training and the provision of tools to improve their participation in the upcoming local elections of January 23, 2022. To this end, 181 people were sensitized on the issues of political participation and women's election as actors of development and change; 37 women observers and 10 women journalists were equipped with practical skills for observing elections in Senegal, 20 women candidates were equipped with skills on election campaign strategy, and communication tools were developed. During the 16 days of activism against violence against women campaign, many activities and events were organized: 1/The launching ceremony of the campaign, at the King Fahd Palace, in the presence of the Minister of Women and Gender and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on November 25 th , 2021 2/Branding of the Soweto Square, in front of the National Assembly of Senegal, with the campaign colors. The inauguration was done by the Minister of Women and Gender and the Vice-President of the National Assembly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2JvtVXmfNQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTC-toN_v8o 3/A panel of discussion was organized on the theme "Creative industry entrepreneurship and violence" followed by a fashion show at the Delegation of Rapid Entrepreneurship (DER). During this event, several women entrepreneurs and self-entrepreneurs shared their experiences. 4/On December 9 th , 2021 a panel on "Sport, Violence and Women's Boxing" and a boxing gala closed the 16 Days of Activism campaign. This event, took place at the Remembrance Square, the participation of high level sportswomen and experienced boxers competed in the ring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoWwg6qZsMc 5/Production of a video clip by Daara-J, internationally known rappers. Their song served as the anthem of the 16 days. They also organized a concert at the French Institute downtown Dakar. In terms of global communication, the Senegal Program was supported by the regional office. Social networks have been a privileged way to ensure the visibility of its main activities. Articles were also published on Senegal’s page of UN Women Africa website. Articles and videos were written on the different events of the 16 Days of Activism campaign. However, due to the current redesign of the UN Women Africa website, they have not yet been published. However, videos have been made and posted on YouTube, while others are pending validation.. The new communication analyst started on November 22, allowing to take over the communication activities. Concerning AWLIN, with the pandemic, the activities were postponed upon the request of the Ministry of Women.
