    Outcome insights and achievements

Outcome progress note for the year

Laws, policies and strategies adopted and implemented in line with international standards and informed by voices of women survivors of violence to prevent and respond to VAWG

Recommendations from the women who experience violence is being suggested to improve the DV law of Thailand to ensure survivor-centred, women empowering, women's safety, and gender-responsive services, including justice. In addition, the draft local SOPs on approach to assisting and protecting women migrant workers suffering from domestic violence and any form of sexual violence , in both communities and workplaces in Chiang Mai, received good response and positive comments from local authorities. Likewise to SOPs in Bangkok and Mae Sot, NGOs networks agreed on the local SOPs for VAWG, while the authorities of government agencies advised that the local SOPs should be endorsed by the head of agencies at national level.

Laws, policies and strategies adopted and implemented in line with international standards and informed by voices of women survivors of violence to prevent and respond to VAWG

UN Women has maintained a consistent and long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) to advance gender equality and align national laws and policies with international standards. A key focus has been ensuring the meaningful engagement of civil society organizations (CSOs) in shaping the legal and policy framework to address violence against women (VAW). In 2024, dialogues between MSDHS and CSOs were facilitated as critical platforms for collaboration. These dialogues served as entry points to generate inputs, build consensus, and secure broad-based support for the revision of the Victim of Domestic Violence Protection Act (DV Law). Additionally, UN Women partnered with the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development to convene a consultative meeting, exploring opportunities to advance the development of a National Action Plan on Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW). This partnership underscores UN Women’s commitment to fostering inclusive, multi-stakeholder approaches to policy formulation and implementation. The revised DV Law, currently under review, embodies a more comprehensive framework for safeguarding victims of domestic violence, addressing systemic gaps, and aligning with international human rights standards. Its progression toward approval by the National Assembly of Thailand represents a significant milestone in strengthening legislative responses to violence against women and advancing gender equality. UN Women’s strategic engagement throughout these processes ensures that diverse voices, particularly those of CSOs, are amplified in decision-making. This inclusive approach not only enhances the quality and relevance of the legal framework but also reinforces collective accountability in achieving the goal of ending violence against women in Thailand. UN Women's technical and strategic support throughout this process has ensured that CSOs are empowered to meaningfully contribute to these developments. Their participation not only strengthens the inclusivity and accountability of the legislative process but also reinforces the commitment to ending violence against women at all levels of society.
