The Capacity of URT and stakeholders is strengthened to assess progress of the Beijing Platform for Action and other global normative frameworks for gender equality and empowerment of women.

URT joined the Global community to by submitting the historic Generation Equality Forum (GEF) commitments that focuses on advancing Economic Justice and Rights for Women. The BPfA +25 national commitments identified four impact areas to be implemented during the GEF five-year period including: Improved life/ welfare of women ; Reduced family poverty; Expansion of women business and assets owners; and Increased women participation in community development. To oversee implementation, the government launched the National Task Force comprising of 25 members for both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. The President highlighted the Government’s commitments to Generation Equality and UN Women’s support in her speech during the launching of the Generation Equality Taskforce on 15 th December. Implementation of Generation Equality Commitment will foster actionable strategies to reduce inequalities between women and men; address economic justice issues and contribute to an inclusive economic growth By establishing TORs and Road map for the National Task Force for the development of the first National Action Plan on Women Peace and Security (NAP-WPS), URT set in motion the development of the first NAP WPS in Tanzania. The National Task Force is composed of members from the security sectors and the Ministry of Community Development Women Gender and Special Groups (MCDEGSG ) in Mainland, MHSWEGC in Zanzibar, and two representatives from Africa Women Leadership Network (AWLN). With UN Women’s technical support, the Task Force will take a multi-stakeholder and community-based participatory approach to developing Tanzania’s first NAP-WPS in line with UNSCR 1325. To help form the Task Force, UN Women supported the signing of a one-of-its-kind tripartite MOU between the two leading Ministries of Government (represented by the MCDEGSG in Mainland, and MHSWEGC in Zanzibar) and the NGO Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF) as the “resource organization” for the NAP-WPS development.
