    Summary of country programme

UN Women opened its regional office for the Americas and the Caribbean in 2013. To advance gender equality and women's empowerment, it focuses its work on the thematic areas: economic empowerment, leadership, and political participation, combating gender-based violence, peace and security, humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction. Operates in twelve countries and has non-resident agency in 8 more.

ACRO has strengthened global and regional intergovernmental processes through continued support to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), UN strengthened co-coordination (ECLAC-UN Women) and hosting of Regional Women’s Conferences and regional CSW consultations since 2020 and continued substantive and political support to CEDAW and other HR bodies.

Through its regional role, integrates gender markers in joint work plans, and of a gender perspective as a guiding principle during the elaboration and implementation of cooperation frameworks. Efforts have reinforced UNW alliance with LAC Civil Society Organizations through regular meetings and regional dialogues. Other focus is on Care: 11 LAC countries are designing or starting to implement National Care Systems with UN Women support.
