    Outcome insights and achievements

Outcome progress note for the year

Social norms, traditional gender stereotypes and unequal power relations which normalize and justify discrimination, racism and violence are deconstructed.

The advocacy efforts encompassing message promotion, campaigning, strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, and interagency collaboration have significantly contributed to dismantling entrenched social norms, traditional gender stereotypes, and unequal power relations. The 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris served as a powerful platform to amplify messages of gender equality and non-discrimination for women within the sports ecosystem and beyond. The collaborative efforts of three UN Women offices—Argentina, Brazil, and the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific—contributed valuable assets and inputs to the global campaign “Change the Game,” launched by HQ in partnership with UNESCO. This unified initiative effectively raised international awareness of the gender barriers and discrimination faced by women and girls, positively influencing public opinion worldwide. It impacted positively in various efforts to mobilize resources with key stakeholders such us CAF and the FC Barcelona, whith whom concepts notes and collaborations are being discussed at the beginning of 2025. Moreover, the sensitization of the public opinion about the gender barriers in the sport ecosystem resulted in the recognition of the "Sports for Equality Campaign" lead by UN Women as an action of public interest from the Parliament of the City of Buenos Aires. Its widespread media attention, the endorsement by provincial governments that spread messages and developed actions at local level to raise awarenesses about the issue. The sensitization of public opinion paved the way for renewed discussions between UN Women representatives and the national government. These efforts reaffirmed commitments to collaborative work in 2025 with provintial and national governements. Moreover, the articulation of various stakeholders promoted by UN Women jointly with other UN agencies and NGO’s to leverage the visibility and debate regarding digital violence contributed to positioned the issue in the public agenda, as well as to provide inputs to the consultation to have a regional model law promoted by the MESECVI, as well as the promotion of Ley Belén (the law to regulate and apply penalization to digital violence against women).

These efforts aim to challenge and eradicate the normalization and justification of discrimination, racism, and violence against women and girls. The heightened visibility of digital violence, especially impacting women with public voices, has been successfully amplified through collaborative campaigns by various UN Agencies and partnerships with the Ombudsman office. This concerted effort has positively influenced public opinion, leading to the approval of Ley 27736, known as Ley Olimpia, which officially recognizes digital modalities as gender violence. This initiative not only contributes to fostering inclusivity but also plays a pivotal role in challenging and discussing social norms that perpetuate discrimination against women.
