i-icon World Bank Income Classification:Low Income The World Bank classifies economies for analytical purposes into four income groups: low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high income. For this purpose it uses gross national income (GNI) per capita data in U.S. dollars, converted from local currency using the World Bank Atlas method, which is applied to smooth exchange rate fluctuations. i-icon Least Developed Country:Yes Since 1971, the United Nations has recognized LDCs as a category of States that are deemed highly disadvantaged in their development process, for structural, historical and also geographical reasons. Three criteria are used: per capita income, human assets, and economic vulnerability. i-icon Gender Inequality Index:0.575 GII is a composite metric of gender inequality using three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment and the labour market. A low GII value indicates low inequality between women and men, and vice-versa. i-icon Gender Development Index:0.723 GDI measures gender inequalities in achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: health, education, and command over economic resources.

ONU Mujeres está presente en Argentina desde 2013 a través de la Oficina Regional para las Américas y el Caribe. En 2018 abrió su oficina en el país para apoyar técnicamente al Gobierno en sus esfuerzos por avanzar hacia la igualdad de género y el empoderamiento de las mujeres y diversidades en el marco de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible.  Actualmente se ha consolidado como un actor relevante en la materia, trabajando de forma consensuada con el gobierno nacional, en particular con el Ministerio de las Mujeres, Géneros y Diversidad y con gobiernos subnacionales.  

ONU Mujeres Argentina cuenta con tres áreas programáticas: Empoderamiento económico de las mujeres y la diversidad, Eliminación de la violencia contra las mujeres y la diversidad, y Gobernanza, mujeres, paz y seguridad. Brinda apoyo para transversalizar la perspectiva de género en el marco legal y las políticas públicas argentinas, en los distintos niveles y jurisdicciones; visibilizar y fomentar el debate sobre normas y estereotipos; generar estadísticas de género de calidad y más accesibles; e incorporar desarrollo sostenible, el cambio climático, la economía circular y la justicia digital en iniciativas y políticas públicas.
